While being one of the top economies of Europe, Italy has not lost its classical and cultural roots. The country, its cities, towns and vilages are fascinating to visit, not least for its cuisine, literature, art, music and architecture.
While mountainous in the South and in the far north (Italian Alps) the two regions are divided by the Po Valley, which covers 70% of the country. The islands of Sardinia and Sicily are also very mountainous.
Because of its elongated shape, Italy does take a while to explore by train, car or tour as a lot of travel is involved. Mediterranean cruises has become a convenient way to explore many of the more important places to visit.
Destinations like Venice and Rome, as they have through the ages, today are visited by millions every year and will continue to do so. So do places like Naples, Livorno, Florence and Pisa and the Amalfi Coast, just to name a few.
Rome, long the capital of the Roman Empire became the centre of the Christian world after the empire’s fall. It has wonderful places to visit, a real feast for the eyes and will leave one with life long memories.
Venice too, is one of the important European destinations, it evokes romance and an old world charm that one would not forget anytime soon.
