Sealand, Denmark

South East Denmark Map - Map showing location of Denmark.

Sealand is the largest island of Denmark with plenty of scenic beaches to visit, bordered by the Baltic Sea. It is also home to Copenhagen, capital of Denmark.

The City of Copenhagen is partially located on the eastern coast of Sealand but also part of the much smaller island of Amager, being connected by five bridges.

In the south of Sealand, there is plenty of countryside to explore and spectactular views to see. There are also castles, wildlife parks and colourful flower gardens.

West Sealand

In the west, there are places to visit such as the cathedral city of Roskilde, Viking fortresses, little villages and market towns. The scenery here consists of fjords, quiet beaches, high cliffs and islands off the coast.

There is plenty of Viking history here, from ancient burial mounds, Viking fortresses and the Viking Ship Museum. Other attractions here are the Sealand Sommerland, great for kids of all ages and the historical Nyvang Co-operative Village, where you can experience what life was like two hundred years ago.

North Sealand

Kronborg Castle, completed in 1585 is a World Heritage Site, one of three in Denmark. With its massive Great Hall, the largest in Europe, it features a number of Hans Kniper’s royal tapestries. It is the site where Shakespeare had set Hamlet.

Places to Visit

The other main cities on the island of Sealand include Roskilde, Næstved and Elsinore.

Beaches found here include Stibjerg Beach, Kalvehave, Egerup Beach, Sanddobberne ved campingplads, Gudmindrup Beach and Kobæk Beach, one of Denmark’s most beautiful.

Amongst the many places to visit in Denmark, Sealand’s BonBon-Land, The White Cliffs of Møn, Knuthenborg Park & Safari, Sommerland Sælland, The Viking Ship Museum, Geocenter Møns Klint, Dragsholm Castle, Gavnø Castle, the Co-operative village of Nyvang and the Land of Legends rate amongst the most interesting for visitors.

Amager

On Amager, you can find Amager Strandpark, a waterpark which has an artificial island and some 4.6km of beaches to enjoy. Swimming here is best during the summer, on warm weather days as the water is normally very clean. Other activities here include kayaking, fitness training and diving, as well as skating.
